I was chatting the other day with a friend about how the Geode QAL finishes in plenty of time before Christmas, and she was glad as it meant she could use this quilt along as the motivation to make a quilt for her in-laws for Christmas. The conversation flowed on, but I’m sorry, Jane, I was mildly distracted at how Geode would look in Christmas colours!
So I sat and had a play yesterday in EQ7 with a variety of Christmas fabrics and colour palettes. First, the more traditional reds and greens, using some Kate Spain Christmas fabric.
But then I was thinking about how Christmas in Australia doesn’t tend to be too red and green, with brighter, cooler colours featuring more in our decor given the summer heat that surrounds our Christmases down under. I partial to blue and silver at Christmas, so I chose a variety of Robert Kaufman designers’ blues and aquas for a cool-toned Christmas quilt.
And then of course there’s the more novelty Christmas fabrics! Cotton + Steel comes out with some great options, and I thought a baby Geode would make a super fun Christmas tree skirt to show off their prints.
What are you thinking of making for your Geode quilt? You can see a variety of non-Christmas fabrics and colour palettes used by the pattern testers here! And don’t forget to grab the Geode pattern for just $7 in my store and also on Craftsy.

I am planning on doing the QAL in Christmas fabrics too. The block is such a fun opportunity to show off the fabrics.
