It is a very well documented fact that quilt binding is my most dreaded step in the whole quilting process. Machine binding quilts has helped reduced the levels of despair I experience while doing it (as it’s over so much more quickly now!), but all. that. pressing?! Ughhh…
This probably started when in Japan, where we didn’t have an ironing board because “Oh we’re not here for long, why invest in something so big and bulky?!” *facepalm* Definitely one of those big “Oh seriously, Alyce!” moments in my life. Instead, I had a towel on a low coffee table next to my sewing desk. Which I would move to the dining table in times of need #ohseriouslyalyce Awkward, slippery, frustrating! Sometimes I could convince my husband to press it in half for me, but that hasn’t happened once since moving back (and buying an ironing board ASAP!).
Then one day, the heavens opened and angel appeared before me with a direct message of Instagram hope! The angel makes quilt binding, and would I like to try it out? Cue the Hallelujah Chorus.
My quilt binding angel is Kelli from Simply Mackbeth Design Co, and she sent me three scrumptious little rolls of premade quilt binding in pink, aqua, and yellow. Hello!
They arrived quickly, and were safely wrapped in shrink wrap – nothing squashed, no creased fabric, no frayed edges leaving threads everywhere, and each roll was neatly and sweetly tied together with a scrap of fabric. I was so excited to try them out, and I had my Patisserie quilt all ready to go. As enticing as that aqua bias stripe by Bonnie & Camille was, I decided the yellow Moda Bella solid was the one to go with. I don’t often use so much yellow in my quilts, so it was the perfect chance to use a yellow binding.
I was really impressed with the binding! It was securely stitched together, and accurately pressed in half. It stitched on just beautifully!
Each roll is 7 strips of 100% designer quilting cotton, cut at the standard 2 1/2″ width, which means you get a neat roll of over 7 yards of ready-to-go binding! That’s enough for a whole lap quilt, or a few smaller quilts. Quilters in the US can order directly from Kelli, and international customers can purchase her premade quilt binding from Southern Fabric.
Kelli sent the premade quilt binding as a gift, with no obligation to blog. All excited ravings and uneven binding stitches are my own.

Sooooo cute! You almost don’t want to unroll them, like what happens with jelly rolls, haha!

These look great. I have to admit that making the binding if one of my favourite parts, as is sewing it on by hand. I loathe the quilting!

I definitely do seem to be in the minority with this, haha! But I don’t mind quilting. Love it, in fact, when it’s a smaller quilt!
