Bright copper kettles and warm woolen… nope, can’t think of anything to rhyme with cushions! That little variation of the song has been going through my head this week as I was stitching up a sweet little cushion.
The fabulous quilting magazine, Love Patchwork & Quilting, are hosting a Gingerbread House quilt along to sew up the Gingerbread House quilt pattern by Gracey Larson in their latest issue (#66). It’s a super fun Christmas row quilt!
I chose to make one of the Gumdrop blocks, but then decided to add a few more sections to make it into a small cushion. It’s my favourite way to use solo quilt blocks in situations like this! When it came time to pulling fabric, I couldn’t go past the freshly opened bundle of rainbow Liberty fabrics from Alice Caroline. These are their new exclusive prints and are simply divine!
I kept the quilting simple with a crosshatch design going through the middle of each block and evenly spaced in between (which is about 1 3/4″ apart for a 5″ block, FYI!). The background fabric is a beige-with-an-undertone-hint-of-pink that I had sitting in my cupboard, so I used Aurifil 2420 – a soft salmon – for the quilting to highlight it a touch. That, and pink is always a good choice when working with Liberty!
As usual, it’s an envelope closure cushion with binding. I used two of the prints to also make a two-toned binding using the more saturated prints in the collection – June’s Meadow and The Strawberry Thief.

Hehe, thanks Lisa! This one is destined to be a gift, although it will be a little hard to part with such prettiness.
