The Aussie quilting industry keeps popping out fabulous new books! Today I get to share Zakka Home, the second book by Sedef Imer from Down Grapevine Lane, and as you’d expect from her, it’s just gorgeous! Inside, you’ll find 19 projects, ranging from sashiko coasters to tea towels to cushions to quilts. I love the variety of projects to choose from!
When it came to choosing what to make, I was sorely tempted by the adorable armchair caddy. I shared an Instagram Story the other day of how my EPP has kinda taken over the couch in our living room, so it would certainly get use.
But in the end, I decided that it was time to get cracking on Christmas presents. Zakka Home is the perfect book to grab when you need to make a handmade gift for someone, and the Ruched Cushion was calling my name – I wanted to experiment with this technique for the first time! I pulled out my fat eighth bundle of Daisy Days by Keera Job, and selected four prints that I thought my niece would like. Sunshiny, cheery, and pretty; just like her!
Being fat eighths, they weren’t quite as long as the strip measurements provided in the book, so I just simply didn’t make as many ruching folds as I might have otherwise, and it worked perfectly. Oh my goodness, what such lovely texture!
Even with less fabric than suggested, it creates such a beautiful look, and I especially love the way that the striped fabric looks with this technique. My niece may only be three, but she is already quite a sentimental little creature, so I’m pretty sure she will love this pretty, flowery, textural cushion from her favourite aunty 😉
Zakka Home will definitely be the book I grab when I want to make a little handmade gift for friends and family, and I’m pretty sure it would be that for you too! You can find a few signed copies still in Sedef’s store, or ask for it at your local quilt store, or find it online at all major bookstores including Amazon.
There’s a whole list of incredible makers sharing their own versions of projects from Zakka Home this month:
