Announcing The Sunset Isle QAL

Sew away into the sunset with the Sunset Isle quilt pattern – a row-of-the-month program designed by me in collaboration with Ava & Neve. Inspired by Fair Isle designs with a dash of south American geometric, Sunset Isle is a beginner-friendly skill builder pattern, with plenty of opportunity for playing with colour with your fabrics!

I simply adore geometric quilt designs, so when Martina from Ava & Neve approached me about working together on a project for 2019 and suggested that a row quilt would be something fun and different, I immediately knew what kind of quilt design needed to be sketched out in EQ8.

About Sunset Isle

Sunset Isle is a 12-month quilt along, making one row per month. Each month, subscribers will receive an email on the first of the month with the pattern for the next row of the quilt.

There are two options for sewing along. You can purchase the pattern only option, where you can use your own fabrics and receive the pattern each month.

There is also a fabric + pattern option through Ava & Neve should you wish to make your Sunset Isle quilt out of Liberty fabric. Open internationally, you can sign up to get monthly bundles to make each row, and they’ll be sent out in the week before the new month starts. The fabrics will make a rainbow effect like the sketch above, and the fun part is that not every single bundle will be the same, so everyone’s quilt will be unique. There’ll even be a few Liberty solids mixed in, which will make for an interesting twist as they’re sprinkled throughout the quilt!

Fabric Requirements

Prints: Each row requires between 4-8 fat sixteenths of print, or equivalent.

Background: 3 yards

Backing: 4 yards

Binding: 1/2 yard

Bonus pattern

Keen eyes will have noticed that months 6 and 7 are the same design for the rows. So we’re adding in a bonus pattern in month 7 for how you can use what you’ve sewn already if you’re wanting to just use the first few months’ blocks for a quilt. This mid-way quilt design is the perfect little baby quilt size of 40″ x 52″.

Cost

Sign up before December 21st, and it’s just $20 for the year. We will be temporarily closing subscriptions on December 21st so that we can make sure everything is in place before Christmas, ready to go for January 1st. The pattern subscription will re-open in mid-January should you wish to join in later, but the price will go up to $24.
