What a great way to start the new month than with getting to share about the new book by my friend and fellow Aussie quilt designer, Jemima Flendt from Tied With A Ribbon. Her second book, Quilt Big, is all about supersizing quilt blocks for faster finishes… with style!
The photography in this book is just stunning. When I first saw the cover last year, I knew it was going to be good. And I wasn’t disappointed! The photos are beautifully styled, with cosy backdrops and perfectly coordinated props.
I chose to make the Bow Tie quilt, using the Animalia bundle from Art Gallery Fabrics as the starting point for my fabrics. I added in 6 more AGF prints in coordinating colours and in similar themes – the prints from Esoterra are fabulous! Dinosaurs and chartreuse with a little pop of fuchsia. So good.
As with all of the quilts in this book, the blocks come together really quickly, especially when batch tasking – cut it all at one time, sew the first step for all blocks in a session, press and cut all at once, etc.
Soon enough, I had a quilt top all ready for today’s post! This one is destined for a nephew, and I’ll make one in similar colours for his brother too, all ready for Christmas this year.
