Modern Flower Quilt Pattern

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of playing with Pat Bravo’s latest line for Art Gallery Fabrics – Matchmade. With some added snippets of Pat’s other range, Legendary, and some Sun Kissed by Maureen Cracknell, I paired the prints with Pure Elements Snow to create a jewel-toned modern flower quilt pattern that’s now out in Love Patchwork & Quilting issue 75!

The backing is the gorgeous Summerdress Dreams Ray print from Sun Kissed, and that binding was the most perfectly coloured stripe – Steps Above Prism from Avantgarde by Katarina Roccella. I had originally planned on a different stripe (Trinkets Boho from Legendary), but when I saw this stripe while fabric shopping for something else, it was just meant to be – the colours match perfectly to the quilt top!

The journey of making this quilt was actually under quite the time crunch to meet the deadline between a postal delay in receiving the fabrics and a family holiday – I made the whole quilt in about 3.5 days. Told you it was tight! I was super grateful to be able to use my AccuQuilt GO! to help cut out all the pieces I needed. It saved so much time, not to mention the accuracy of my pieces without even worrying about ruler slippage or not lining the ruler up correctly… ask me how I know about THAT cutting frustration!

I then had to take the quilt to my church after school one day to use the large expanse of wood flooring to baste my quilt. The process certainly intrigued our vicar, but he was quite happy with me doing so, and the kids sat at a table and ate their snacks and played a game while waiting for me.

I kept the quilting simple (see aforementioned time crunch!) and did a large diagonal crosshatch across the quilt, which makes for such a cosy quilt to snuggle under.
