A huge part of getting any quilt pattern ready to launch is sending it off to be tested by other quilters. What this means is that a group of normal, everyday quilters from around the world with a variety of skill levels and fabric tastes put your pattern through its paces.
Each of my full quilt patterns are first checked over by a tech editor (I use and highly recommend Michelle from Sew Sorted) – that’s the person who double checks all your quilt math, edits the text, etc. Then it’s off to the pattern testers. It’s the testers’ job to make sure that the pattern makes sense – that it’s easy to read, understand and follow; to double check that the quilt math works in reality; and, if you’re lucky, they’ll pick up a typo or two as well! Essentially, they help make sure that the quilt pattern is user-friendly so that you have the easiest time possible working through my quilt patterns!
The bonus for me is that I get to see so many amazing quilts in so many different fabrics and pattern-interpretations, and showing them off is my favourite part of releasing a new pattern. As in, picture me sitting at the desk with a cheesy, excited grin on my face to share all these quilts!
Due to the variety of options included in the Double Dash quilt pattern, I had quite the army of testers to cover all bases! A few for each size of quilt, and then within those groups, each person was doing a different mix of quilt block size (12″ or 15″) and fabric options (scraps/layer cakes, fat eighths or quarters, yardage). So let’s do this by quilt size… sit back and enjoy the eye candy!
Baby Double Dash Quilts
The baby sized Double Dash quilts finish at either 45″ x 45″ (15″ blocks) or 48″ x 48″ (12″ blocks). Perfect for a cot/crib or a play mat!
First up we have the 12″ block baby quilt by Jo using a beautiful array of scraps – I simply adore how she’s done the background with the different greys! And all those Tula Pink fabrics…
Next is this scrap quilt made by Charlotte using the 12″ block size with a range of novelty fabric scraps. What a great way to use up that kind of fabric! Mix it all up in a baby quilt and it is a super fun take on the I-spy quilt idea.
Using the 12″ block size too, Janet used a range of primary coloured scraps to make her baby quilt.
This is the 15″ block baby quilt, made by Joanne using an autumnal/fall palette.
And Isobel made a mini version using just four 12″ blocks to turn into a large cushion. Super, super scrappy – every piece is different!
Throw Double Dash Quilts
On to the throw sized quilts! These quilts measure either 60″ x 72″ (12″ blocks) or 60″ x 75″ (15″ blocks).
First up we have this stunning 12″ block version with Liberty fabric paired with Moda Grunge that Beth made using the fat eighths/quarters instructions.
Sondra also made a 12″ block version using fat eighths of Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis Textiles… and turned it into a rainbow! I was desperately hoping someone would make a rainbow version!
On to the 15″ block versions, and Kat used a layer cake of Tucker Prairie by 1 Canoe 2 for her Double Dash quilt. And that photo background, rawr!
Alas a broken sewing machine has prevented Fernanda from sewing her top together, but this is going to be one amazing quilt when she’s done! She used yardage of four fabrics to make her 15″ block version.
This photo of Jen’s Double Dash quilt makes me so happy… because daisies are the friendliest flower! (name that movie!) She used fat quarters to make her 15″ block version.
Single Double Dash Quilts
Whether you call this size of quilt a single or a twin, these quilts measure either 72″ x 84″ (12″ blocks) or 75″ x 90″ (15″ blocks).
I love the scrappy monochromatic look of Sue’s quilt. She made the 12″ block version, and I’m loving the calm blues!
A bright and colourful quilt from Katie with her 12″ block version made from yardage! Loving the use of a multicolour background fabric.
Melissa made a 15″ block version using a mix of a batik layer cake and added yardage – great way to work with what ya got!
And here’s a sneak peek of what Jennifer has been up to with her 15″ block version… I can. not. wait. to see this one in full!
Queen Double Dash Quilts
And the final quilt size is perfect for your queen bed! These queen sized quilts measure either 90″ x 90″ (15″ blocks) or 96″ x 96″ (12″ blocks). And psst – make one more row or column of blocks and you have yourself a king quilt
There is something about this 15″ block version by Kris that has me wanting a bowl full of warm-coloured Starburst lollies… I don’t know why, but there’s something about her scrappy Double Dash quilt…
I got major bed envy when I saw the photo of Josephine’s queen quilt! She used yardage to make her 15″ block version.
And there we have it! Which version has your creative juices flowing?! I know I now have about 4 more versions of Double Dash that I want to make, ha!
If you’re now just as inspired, you can grab the Double Dash pattern on sale this week for just $9 (normally $12) for both the PDF and the paper pattern until Friday 16th August (AEST).
