With 24 amazing friends joining in on the Mini Masterpieces blog hop, I am breaking down the sharing of their work into the sections of the book. Starting with the first three lessons – Squares, Strips and Snowballs!
Preorder Mini Masterpieces from these stockists
Simple Squares
The first lesson in Mini Masterpieces covers working with Simple Squares. Whether you’re practising accurate seams, or want a simple project to develop your skills of fussy cutting or working with colour, this is a nice and easy introduction to Mini Masterpieces.
Janice from Better Off Thread used the opportunity to make a new Christmas pillow! She used Pixie Noel with some fussy cutting too, and ahhh so sweet.
Sarah from Sarah Ashford Studio mixed some of her Back To Basics fabric with some fussy cut Ruby Star Society prints. How adorable is that dog?!
Strip Piecing
I love how efficient strip piecing makes you feel! Whether it really does save time or not, I guess that’s up to how quickly you work, but as someone who loves to batch task, this is right up my alley.
Ms Molli Sparkles created four different quilt blocks, and goes to show how the placement of light/dark fabric can change the effect of the block.
Sarah from Sariditty used two prints from her new Paradigm SHIFTS line for her quilt block. I have some of her fabric to play with for the Mini Masterpieces QAL next year… more info on that coming next week!
Snowball Blocks
When I was thinking about what other kind of squares/strips block to include, I decided that the snowball quilt block was the way to go – it’s a fun way to jazz up your squares! And it can really be a fun opportunity for fussy cutting, as the two fabulous quilters for this technique have shown.
Ali from Arabesque Scissors turned her snowball blocks into a Christmas bauble pillow… complete with ribbon bows and pompom trim. AMAZING.
And Kitty from Night Quilter also showed off the fussy-cutting ability of snowball blocks with the swirly twirly unicorns… look closely, it’s not just a marbled-look print!
The fun continues on for a few more days still! And each person is giving away two spools from my Aurifil thread collection, so don’t forget to check in each day to enter to win!
