The second section of Mini Masterpieces is all about triangles – half-square triangles, flying geese, and half-rectangle triangles. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of triangles and what they add to a quilt design with the dynamic angles they create!

Half-Square Triangles
It’s no secret that I love half-square triangles! *coughModernHSTsamplercough* I also love any excuse to pop in a little fussy cut to make a quilt block extra special.
And Caitlin concurs! Having made her sampler block in greys and yellows, with the cutest little fussy cut centre. She then decided that it needed to become a cushion for her family room. Check out that sweet edging detail and the hand quilting!
Andrea from 3rd Story Workshop used a similar palette, albeit a little moodier! She used a beautiful screen-printed fabric from a local Canadian artist, Keephouse.
Flying Geese
So here’s a behind-the-scenes tidbit for you… the flying geese sampler quilt block in Mini Masterpieces reminds me of mushrooms from Super Mario – that larger flying geese unit is the hat!
Kirsty from Bonjour Quilts flipped her block over to showcase a beautiful Pat Bravo fabric. Very striking with that background fabric!
And Karen of Karen Lewis Textiles made the quilt block from the flying geese mini quilt. Love the scrappy background!
Half-Rectangle Triangles
When it came to triangles, there was no doubt in my mind that I needed to ask Jemima from Tied With A Ribbon and Rebecca from Bryan House Quilts (another BHG!) to join in – they’re triangle queens!
Jemima’s half-rectangle triangle quilt block looks beautiful in blue Liberty fabric!
And Rebecca has gone for a teal colour palette – love the stripe feature print paired with a solid. Very effective.
The fun continues on for a few more days still! And each person is giving away two spools from my Aurifil thread collection, so don’t forget to check in each day to enter to win!

I saw where I could purchase the wool mat a couple of days ago. Is it still available at the same price?
Alyce says
I’m not sure which wool mat or where you saw it, there’s so many available now! I have the one from Precision Quilting Tools.
