Today’s the day we start to construct our quilt tops! The Happy Scrappy quilt is a medallion-style quilt, so we’re starting with piecing the centre section today.
If you’re just tuning in now, fear not, you’re welcome to join in at anytime. Here’s the blocks that you will need to have made for your full Happy Scrappy quilt:
- 1 Cross block
- 20 Ribbon blocks
- 4 Arch blocks
- 8 Print Nine-Patch blocks
- 4 Skinny Strip blocks
- 4 Background Nine-Patch blocks
- 4 Bold Brick blocks
For the centre section, you will need:
- Cross block
- Arch blocks
- Skinny Strip blocks
I promise my quilt top is square… Melbourne’s weather has been a bit windy!
Was it what you were expecting?! Let’s get sewing…
Use a 1/4″ seam. Press seams open unless otherwise directed.
Step 1. Arrange the blocks according to the photo. Sew the blocks in to rows. Press.
Step 2. Sew the rows together. Press.
Quilt top should currently measure 27 1/2″ x 27 1/2″.
Share your quilt top progress using #happyscrappyqal on Instagram and in the Blossom Heart Quilts Facebook group! The next blog post will go up on Wednesday. If you’d like to make sure you don’t miss any posts, sign up for my weekly newsletter.

Where are the nine patches used?
Delaine says
Never mind. Remembered this is just the center.
Alyce says
Hehe, yep 🙂
Mary says
What are the plain rectangular blocks on each side?
Mary says
never mind – they are the tops of the arch blocks. Why do your blocks look so much larger than mine (which are 9 1/2 ” square)?
Alyce says
Yep, that’s correct. And that must just be the photo perspective – I’m holding my arms out, not right in front of my face, so maybe it’s that? My blocks are the same size as your’s!
