I am freakin’ LOVING seeing all your Happy Scrappy quilts grow. Such variety and all so beautiful! As you know, the Happy Scrappy quilt is a medallion-style quilt, so now we’re adding the first border. If you’re just tuning in now, fear not, you’re welcome to join in at anytime. Here’s the blocks that you will need to have made for your full Happy Scrappy quilt:
- 1 Cross block
- 20 Ribbon blocks
- 4 Arch blocks
- 8 Print Nine-Patch blocks
- 4 Skinny Strip blocks
- 4 Background Nine-Patch blocks
- 4 Bold Brick blocks
For the first border, you will need:
- Print nine-patch blocks
- Background nine-patch blocks
- Bold Brick blocks
Because we’re making a checkerboard border, baby! Look at all those happy little squares!
Use a 1/4″ seam. Press seams open unless otherwise directed.
Step 1. Sew a print nine-patch to either side of each background nine-patch block. Press.
Step 2. Sew a Bold Bricks block to each end of two of the checkerboard rows. Press.
Step 3. Sew the two rows from step 1 to opposite edges of your quilt centre. Press. Sew the two rows from step 2 to the remaining edges of the quilt. Press.
Quilt top should currently measure 45 1/2″ x 45 1/2″.
Share your quilt top progress using #happyscrappyqal on Instagram and in the Blossom Heart Quilts Facebook group! The next blog post will go up on Friday. If you’d like to make sure you don’t miss any posts, sign up for my weekly newsletter.

I’m going to use mine as a table topper. And because I got carried away making blocks, I’ve got a few table toppers. Great for picnics!

Am I still able to download this free Happy Scrappy QAL pattern? If so just go to your website & type in the quilt name?

There’s nothing to download – all the Happy Scrappy instructions are available on the various blog posts here 🙂
