Welcome to June – congratulations folks, we are nearly halfway through this year… never did I think I would find such solace in creating and stitching this year. How about you? The desire to simply stitch, and forget about the world for an hour or two…

JUNE – HALF-RECTANGLE TRIANGLES
This month is our final look at triangles! This month, it’s time to practise your half-rectangle triangles.
Just as the name suggests, half-rectangle triangles (or HRTs) take up half of a rectangle. They can be challenging as they require very particular trimming to size, but once you’ve got that skill down, you’ll be able to make them at any size and proportion!
The Half-Rectangle Triangle sampler block is great for practising:
- Accurate trimming
- Angled seams

The Pendant mini quilt is also good for trying out:
- Matching seams

JUNE PRIZES
To enter, you can either post a photo of your month’s project in the Blossom Heart Quilts group on Facebook in this month’s photo album (not sure how to do that? Click here to find out how), or post it on Instagram using the QAL hashtag #MiniMasterpiecesQAL. Either method is acceptable, just be sure to do it by June 30th, 2020 (in your timezone). Monthly winners will be selected at random, and announced by updating this post + in the Facebook group on July 3, 2020.
For all the QAL details including prize eligibility, read this post here.
Block Prize
If you’re sewing along making the sampler blocks this year, that’s awesome! Each month, there’ll be a mix of patterns, notions, and other little goodies on offer. This month, the prize is a PDF copy of the Confetti pattern by Tied With A Ribbon.
Quilt Prize
If you’re making mini quilts or some other type of fully finished product with the mini quilt pattern or turning the sampler block into a finished product (pillow, bag, zippered pouch, etc), this month’s prize is a $50 voucher to Eclectic Mumma.

Congratulations to Jan for winning the block prize.

TIPS FOR HALF RECTANGLE TRIANGLES
The instructions in Mini Masterpieces include how to make half-rectangle triangles from scratch with no extra tools. But if you have a 2:1 ratio ruler like the Creative Grids Perfect Rectangle Triangle Ruler, or a similar version from another brand, you can use that to make the sampler blocks and the mini quilt this month.
The other thing to remember with HRTs is that for each starting rectangle of fabric, you will make two triangles of the same orientation, so you must remember to cut the rectangles in opposite directions to create the shapes in the sampler block and the mini quilt.

One fun fact about designing Pendant – I was careful to design the quilt using the same size of HRTs as the AccuQuilt die from the 8″ Angles Companion set. I made the original without using it, but you bet your bottom dollar I’ll be using it this month!

I’ll be sewing along too and sharing on Instagram – @blossomheartquilts – and in the Facebook group. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments and I’ll respond to you there.
