Here we are, folks! We have made it to the final lesson in Mini Masterpieces! It has certainly been a long(er than expected) journey… thanks 2020, but we made it. A huge thanks to everyone who has stuck around this long, and also to those who have dipped in and out to make what they love and learn what they need to. I’m so grateful for all your support!
BUY THE BOOK
If you’re wanting to get your hands on a copy of Mini Masterpieces for yourself, I have signed copies of Mini Masterpieces available in store.
March – Foundation Paper Piecing
I used to joke to my friends that it always seems like the last project in a quilting book is the most challenging… and it seems mine is no exception! I did indeed decide to combine a some lessons with the final mini quilt project – we not only have foundation paper piecing, but also curves.
But if you’re brand new to foundation paper piecing, then you are in luck! Because I have just released an online course for helping you to get started. Check out Foundation Paper Piecing 101 if you want some video support in helping kickstart your FPP journey!
The foundation paper piecing sampler block is great for practising:
- The foundation paper piecing process!
- Odd angles in foundation paper piecing

The XOXO mini quilt is also good for trying out:
- Fussy cutting – what can you fit in those triangles?!
- Fabric placement to highlight specific features or not
MARCH PRIZES
To enter, you can either post a photo of your month’s project in the Blossom Heart Quilts group on Facebook in this album here (not sure how to do that? Click here to find out how), or post it on Instagram using the QAL hashtag #MiniMasterpiecesQAL. Either method is acceptable, just be sure to do it by March 31st, 2021 (in your timezone). TIPS FOR FOUNDATION PAPER PIECING
Foundation paper piecing is like painting by numbers… but sewing! You are following the printed template seam by seam by seam. My three top tips are:
- Lower your stitch length to 1 – 1.5 to make the paper removal process much easier and smoother
- Use coloured markers/pens/pencils to make note on the templates what colour is going where
- Use a fabric-safe, washable glue to baste the first fabric piece in place
