It’s common knowledge in quilty circles that if you want a Christmas quilt (either for decor or as a gift), the best time to start is “Christmas in July”. That gives us time to piece the top, and get it quilted and bound in time for December*. Which is why I knew I had to run Women of Advent in July this year!
*And yes, I can guarantee that it’s possible to have a fully finished Women of Advent quilt in time for December, because many of November’s group finished their quilts within six months (or sooner). I’ll be sharing more of their quilts and stories later this week!
Women of Advent is a sampler quilt pattern and also a devotional series – 25 blocks, 25 devotionals. Each block is inspired by a woman in Jesus’ ancestry or one who plays a part in pointing us toward him + a daily devotional to go with their story, ending with the cross. It’s also a creative community, with a private Facebook group to share our progress and learnings throughout the month. You can find the full story behind Women of Advent here, sharing the inspiration and process of creating this special quilt!
How it all happens is that it is hosted within an online course on Teachable, and on each Monday at 1am AEST (so that’s Sunday afternoon for half the world!), a set of 6 blocks is released where each block is based on a woman of the Bible. And then every morning (Mon – Sat), there is a daily devotional email sent out for each woman featured that week. We also have a private community via Facebook group which provides the opportunity for discussion and sharing with one another.
I first ran it in November last year, and it was the most beautiful experience – the privilege of sharing this journey through the women of the Bible in a creative, meaningful way with over 100 other people?! What an honour! And I’m so excited to do it all again.

What’s most exciting about Women of Advent this time around is that you can now also sign up for just the devotionals. You will receive the daily devotional emails plus the full ebook version at the end, as well as access to the private community Facebook group too. This option is AU$27 and is available in my online shop here. Perhaps you have some friends that you would love to do this journey with, but they’re not quilters? This is perfect for them!
Enrolment for Women of Advent closes at 9pm Sunday, June 27th (AEST), and you can find answers to the FAQs here. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

My time is completely booked for this year but I am sure I will be interested in the future. I remember when you shared your castle pattern. It seems like it was yesterday, but I clearly know that it wasn’t. LOL I needed a castle pattern for a blog hop and I remembered your pattern. I quickly bought and downloaded it. When you click on my blog website you will see my castle and the reference to your pattern. It was perfect for what I needed.
