Since first running Women of Advent in November, I’ve absolutely loved seeing finished quilts pop up on Instagram and in our private community on Facebook! And to hear their stories of what this journey meant to them, and the lessons they’ve learned from Women of Advent has been so powerful.
Here’s a handful of them, and what their makers had to say about their Women of Advent experience.
I found the Women of Advent quilt pattern when I was searching for sacred holiday quilt ideas. I knew I had found exactly what I was looking for, but what I didn’t know was that I had also found a spiritual journey that would touch my soul and a supportive community of new friends to share it with. I love my quilt. It is a treasure that I will cherish for years to come, because of the meaningful encounters with God and with others that I experienced as I crafted each block. – Jennifer
Working on this project was deeply meaningful, it was a wonderful experience. Combining 2 of my greatest joys God and quilting along with other women who were going through it at the same time was amazing. The daily discussions around the Devotionals were deep and meaningful, then when I was constructing the blocks it gave me time to ponder the devotionals. – Kersten
This quilt was an amazing journey, both for the devotionals and for learning new techniques. I am so very thankful I decided to challenge myself. – Debbie
The quilt itself was so much fun to create but the daily devotionals brought so much more to the entire process. What a legacy these amazing women brought to Christianity. I loved learning about their stories and even suggested to my daughter, the Reverend Hayley, that she consider an Advent Bible study using the quilt as a visual guide. Thank you thank you, Alyce, for enlightening me and for helping me get through November 2020. – Janet
The Women of Advent quilt showed me the ways women were paramount throughout God’s plan, regardless of background, status, or ethnicity. Seeing – all in one story line – the work completed through women with redeemed stories, women with incredible wisdom, and women with steeled faith. The blocks themselves are beautiful, lend themselves to interpretation of fabric, and are fast enough to complete so that meditation on each represented woman’s story and gift is impacting and, for me, mindset shifting. The catalyst was being able to share this powerful journey with others across the globe and hear their stories and connection with these women in the blocks. Alyce put together a truly divine experience with a medium that is already known for storytelling. This will be the most precious quilt in my home. – Angela
I so enjoyed making this quilt while reading daily devotionals and exchanging comments on Facebook with others doing the same thing. Because each block is unique and about a different woman, they each have a special meaning. It was a terrific experience. – Sue
I loved making this quilt, and the devotions that went with each block were excellent. I learnt so much about those women and some new quilting techniques as well. Thank you Alyce for the opportunity. – Ann-maree
Loved the journey! – Amy
