The next instalment of the Tasty Treats patterns is here… proudly introducing Candy Crew!

Whether you call them candy, lollies, sweeties or something else, this set of six candy quilt block patterns continues with my theme of cute, yummy food foundation paper pieced designs. This time with a variety of sweet treats found in the lolly aisle! Wrapped candies, lollipops, chocolate and a couple of Halloween options too – candy corn and a pumpkin marshmallow, hehe 😉
CANDY QUILT BLOCK PATTERNS
First up, we have the Candy Corn quilt block – the pattern that inspired the rest of the patterns! This little fella is also being shown off in the tote bag that is included within the Candy Crew pattern so that you can make a candy-themed bag… perfect for trick or treating! More on this later.
Then we have Lollipop (lollipop, ohhhh lolli-lollipop…) in a delicious berry flavour. The fabric placement was completely unintentional and yet that closed eye motif is perfectly placed to become a sweet little smile! Such a happy accident!
Sweety is a wrapped candy with those crinkly ends, ready to be twisted open and gobbled down.
Next up is Lolly – the stripy sister to Sweety. I used just two colours, but you could certainly go all out with as many colours as you like for the stripes!
No trip down the lolly aisle is complete with a stop at the chocolates, and it seems someone has already taken a nibble out of Chocolate Bar! Also, this was the only brown solid fabric I had in my stash… thank goodness it was the right shade.
And lastly, but certainly not least, is Pumpkin Spice. I couldn’t release a candy-themed pattern at this time of the year and not include a pumpkin option, ha! Although you could certainly use green fabric and call it a caramel apple if you so preferred 😉
CANDY TOTE BAG PATTERN
All of the Tasty Treat bundle patterns include a finished product to show of your quilt blocks, and the Candy Crew pattern includes instructions to make a tote bag AKA the perfect trick or treat bag! The bag finishes at 10″ x 12″ x 4″, so it’s a decent size to not only fit in alllll the candy, but to also be a useful size throughout the rest of the year – how cute would this be as a gift bag?! And it can definitely fit in a book, drink bottle, a notebook, and more to be a handy-dandy-candy tote bag.
For the Sweety tote bag, I used the block background fabric for the sides (Fabric A in the pattern), and a contrasting fabric for the top and bottom (Fabrics B and C in the pattern). I also used a 30mm webbing for the handles as I couldn’t not use this gorgeous aqua I had been hoarding since we lived in Japan! The pattern calls for 1″/25mm but you can certainly use whatever size you have on hand.
In comparison, I used the block background fabric for the entire exterior of the Candy Corn trick or treat bag – as the candy design goes right to the edge of the quilt block, this helps create a more seamless look. You’ll just want to make sure that there’s enough contrast between the candy prints and the background fabric to make sure the candy stands out! I also used 1″/25mm webbing for this bag.
The Candy Crew pattern is on sale until Sunday night (AEST) for just $10! You can click here to buy the pattern, and I can’t wait to see what you make with your Candy Crew. You can share it on Instagram with #CandyCrewBHQ and tag me – @BlossomHeartQuilts!
