Welcome to the first quilt block tutorial of Scrap Buster Blocks! This series features a different scrap-friendly quilt block tutorial every month that will help you use up your scraps and make some fun quilts along the way.
QUILT BLOCK TUTORIAL
Right here on my website, you’ll find the rotary cut instructions for making the 12″ quilt block (finished). If you have an AccuQuilt, you can find the AccuQuilt instructions on the AccuQuilt Australia blog to make the quilt blocks with any sized Qube set. Also on the AccuQuilt Australia blog, you will find a few quilt layout options for using each block to help inspire you to think “outside the block” (ha!) when it comes to using your quilt blocks and not just use the standard grid layout.

Hi Alyce,
I have never participated in a BOM before, but I LOVE the Irish Chain Block and I also LOVE Scrappy so it is a double kind of LOVE for me this morning 🌅 ❤️. I’m also a “Super Fan” of yours, just saying….
Alyce says
Well, there ya go! Thank you ❤

I love the scrappy blocks. Thank you. This would look good using different scraps in each block with the white background.
Alyce says
Absolutely! I’m a very “controlled scrappy” kinda quilter, so I like a tight colour palette. But also how good would this be as a fussy-cut I-spy kinda quilt?!

I am going to try the rainbow scrappy quilt. Will you email me each month or do I have to find a website?

I love this quilt. The second quilt I at any point made was a solitary Irish Chain in blues and it turned out fabulous. I couldn’t imagine anything better than to make this sew and thank you for the tute on the most proficient method to make it sketchy and turn out so beautiful in rainbow tones. I love this blanket.

I have many colored scraps, however, I don’t have many low volume fabrics. I’d like to make these blocks but will have to purchase the background fabric. Can you recommend how much fabric I’d need to have enough to do the background?
Alyce says
For a start, you can use whatever fabric scraps you like for the background! But yes, absolutely that includes using just one fabric. You’ll need about 2 yards if you’re using sashing, or 1 1/4 yards without sashing.
