Quilting With Liberty QAL

Last month, I shared about a brand new quilting book by Jenni Smith – Quilting With Liberty. As a part of that review, I made up some Love And Kisses blocks and really enjoyed it… so I decided that in order to motivate myself to make some more, I’d invite you all to join in!

With Jenni’s blessing, I am co-hosting a casual quilt along with Ava & Neve throughout April. All you need is a copy of the book, your favourite Liberty fabrics, and choose whatever project from the book that you’d like to work on throughout the month! Yep, it’s a choose-your-own-adventure kind of quilt along.

I’ll be making more Love And Kisses blocks primarily using my Liberty Society bundles from Ava & Neve from the past few months, and am aiming for 20 in total for a baby quilt. I’m not sure I have enough greys to use for all the backgrounds, but we shall see! I may just have to buy some more, what a shame 😉

We will share some weekly prompts to inspire what to post/make each week, but the pace really is up to you! But if you’re like me and like to have a rough guide, here’s what we’ll be doing:

Week 1 – Share what project you’ve chosen and your Liberty fabric pull

Week 2 – Start cutting and sewing

Week 3 – Share your progress

Week 4 – Finish up and post your final project

Quilting With Liberty QAL Prizes + Dates

The quilt along officially runs from Monday April 5th – Friday April 30th (but if you start earlier, I’m totally not going to care 😉).

And of course, it’s always fun to have some prizes on offer for quilt alongs! A nice reward on offer for our hard work. As there’s a range of sizes of projects in the book, we decided to have two prizes.

One small project maker (ie cushion or mini quilt) – one month’s Liberty Society bundle from Ava & Neve + 2 Little Liberty patterns from me.

One large project maker (baby quilt top or bigger) – two month’s of Liberty Society bundles from Ava & Neve + 2 Little Liberty patterns from me.

To be in the running, be sure to post your plans and progress throughout the month on Instagram using #QuiltingWithLibertyQAL, and in the final week to post your finished project or quilt top. Simples!

And yes, this is a quilt along about quilting with Liberty, so yes, your projects do need to include Liberty. Doesn’t need to be all Liberty, but it should feature predominantly, ie. use something else for the background, but Liberty for the prints.
