My husband is headed to New Orleans in September for work, and I am super keen to get an order or two sent to his hotel during that week. But when should I order?! How long does it usually take for fabric to ship around the country? I realise it depends on what state it’s coming from, but does anyone have an average or any advice? Or even better, any of you live in New Orleans and be willing to play postman for me?! He’ll be in the CBD, and I’d be happy to slip in a bit of fabric into the orders for you as thanks ๐
Talking of Americans, go check out my fellow Elna girl Kara at Me And Elna for her stop on the Kate Spain blog hop! She’s the final blogger before tomorrow’s Readers’ Q&A with Kate Spain and Friday’s final linky of all Kate Spain projects made this month!

Sorry, I’m not American but could you try calling the hotel to see if you got the fabric shipped early they’d hold it until your husband is there?
Kara {me and elna} says
It doesn’t take long at all! It really depends on where you are buying from. For example, Amanda at Westwood Acres usually sends her packages out the same day that they are ordered; if you order a package from her on Monday morning, you may get it by Wednesday! ๐ I think the standard time for receiving a package is around two days… of course I’ve heard horror stories of packages being re-routed all over the place, but- knock on wood- I’ve never experienced that.

I agree with Kara. I order tons of fabric from lots of places and its usually two days, three tops.

Shipping is usually really fast for me, too. 3-5 days, max.
Some bigger places might have a chart to give you an idea how long it will take to get your order from the shop to the final destination.

I placed an order on Thursday afternoon, got an email Monday morning that it had shipped, and should receive it today or tomorrow. The post office should only take 2-3 business days, but I wonder if you could place the order, but contact the seller and ask if they could mail it a particular day? Then you’d have a more precise time window.

I live in the Big Easy ๐ but then we’re moving at the end of this month… If no one else volunteers, I’d be happy to ask a friend. How long is he in town for? For some reason NOLA mail can take an extra day or two sometimes, making it a little extra tricky
Rebecca says
Typically less than a week, I’d say. I’ve ordered some that’s come to the house in less than 5 days. A lot of places should say how much time they think the shipping should take.
Marisol says
It normally takes about 2-3 days.
Keep in mind that if sending packages to a hotel early they are likely to charge you a handling fee (possibly about $25)
Janice @ Better off Thread says
Usually within a few days, but my recent order from Pink Chalk took over a week! The hotel may hold it for you. How long is your husband there?
Olivia says
Ask the shop from which you order if they will ship priority mail. We have flat rate boxes which hold quite a bit and takes 2-3 days. September is a big month for hurricanes, so that could delay mail if the gulf coast gets hit.

Contact the seller, let them know your situation. Most will be more that happy to make sure your packages arrive on time. Especially etsy sellers, they are small businesses and more likely to go the extra mile for you.

I would call the hotel and see if they will work with you. I can’t imagine that they won’t. Then order early and enjoy all the bounty when he gets home!

If you can, place the order by phone and explain the circumstances. I’m sure most shops would be more than willing to work with you to have your order delivered the week you require it. Good Luck!

My only experience is ordering from Connecting threads and delivery to Canada. But it only takes about a week.
